Bo Derek Joins The Greatest Fight, The Fight Against Hunger

Yank Barry and Global Village Champions Foundation are pleased to welcome Bo Derek as our newest Champion.  Bo is an actress best known for her iconic role in the movie "10". She is also a passionate animal rights activist focusing on the illegal trade in wild animals and the rescue and re-habilitation of big cats.

Bo will join many of our Champions, including Mohammad Ali, Celine Dion, Buzz Aldrin in asking members to support our Summer Membership Drive and become Active Paying Members and join our growing community of caring individuals who really want to make a difference.  We are all working towards the same goals: A Day Without Hunger

For the price of a McDonald's Meal you can become Member - know that 100% of your membership fee goes directly to feeding kids around the world.  The Foundation is entirely run with volunteers from around the world and there are zero administration fees.  All expenses are supported by the Founder and Chairman Yank Barry from his personal resources.

When you become a Global Villager (as we are called) your name will be entered into a Member's Only Draw - 50 pairs of VIP Tickets to the most anticipated event of the boxing season plus tickets to the weigh in - The World Welter Weight Title between Pacquiao and Marquez in Las Vegas, airfare from anywhere in the world, 3 nights and $1,000.00 spending money. World Hunger - Josette Sheeran & The World Food Organization

 There are 925 million undernourished people in the world today. That means one in  seven people do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. Hunger and malnutrition are in fact the number one risk to the health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.

Among the key causes of hunger are natural disasters, conflict, poverty, poor agricultural infrastructure and over-exploitation of the environment. Recently, financial and economic

crises have pushed more people into hunger.

 As well as the obvious sort of hunger resulting from an empty stomach, there is also the hidden hunger of micronutrient deficiencies which make people susceptible to infectious diseases, impair physical and mental development, reduce their labour productivity and increase the risk of premature death.

Hunger does not only weigh on the individual. It also imposes a crushing economic burden on the developing world. Economists estimate that every child whose physical and mental development is

stunted by hunger and malnutrition stands to lose 5-10 percent in lifetime earnings.

Among the Millennium Development Goals which the United Nations has set for the 21st century, halving the proportion of hungry people in the world is top of the list. Whereas good progress was made in reducing chronic hunger in the 1980s and the first half of the 1990s, hunger has been slowly but steadily rising for the past decade. Global Village Champions Foundation has quietly been feeding people around the globe for the past 2 decades.  As Josette Sheeran states this problem cannot be solved with any one person or any one agency of foundation.  

Yank Barry and Global Village Champions recognized the substantial need in the last drought to hit Somalia and once again we have gifted a substantial financial contribution to our partners that are working in the Horn of Africa working to save as many lives as possible.  The Need is Dire, please make a contribution to whatever organization you are the most comfortable with.

Global Village Champions Foundation and Yank Barry Donate to the Famine in Africa

Member Contributions directly aid some of the world's most devastating natural disasters.  From the horrendous earthquake in Haiti in January 2010 to the most recent drought in the Horn of Africa and many disasters in between.

Yank Barry, founder and Chairman of Global Village Champions believes in complete transparency and documents all food deliveries with bills of lading to ensure that the Vita Pro food  goes directly to the humanitarian agencies that we partner with and ultimately to the people in need.  We have developed trusting strategic NGO partners around the Globe and in times of crisis we make substantial donations to these organizations in order to be first responders with food, water and medical supplies.

Global Village Champions Foundation and Yank Barry have just made a substantial financial donation  to agencies that are directly working on the ground in the Horn of Africa:  The International Red Cross, The International Medical Core and The Humanitarian Coalition which includes Care Canada, Oxfam Canada and Save the Children Canada. Global Village Champions Foundation is looking to increase it's Global Members and we launched our Summer Membership Drive We chose to offer a membership drive as opposed to a straight-up contest or a raffle because we recognize that true givers like to belong. There are many people who have given 5 or 10 dollars to the Red Cross or the Salvation Army and almost immediately say out loud, "I wish I could do more."

Money raised will go directly to feeding children around the globe, whether it be an orphanage in Haiti that we have adopted, the children in a cancer hospice in the Philipinnes or responding with immediate aid in a natural disaster.  The Foundation has kept very strict records and to date we have fed of 500 million people around the globe.  With your help we will reach our goal of 1 Billion people fed by December 31st, 2013.

Our current membership drive has a very specific focus, boxing. There are many reasons for this and one of them is that a number of World Champion boxers are Global Village Champions. They care about Yank Barry's  determined effort to create A Day Without Hunger. The fan base for boxing is World Wide. Now let's face it, not everyone loves the sport. We knew that going in. The thing is, the new members don't have to love boxing in order to catch the vision of delivering meals to people in need. Even if the new member who wins a trip to Las Vegas with us do not  love boxing, they can still take a fabulous trip, for FREE, and meet the team from around the World. Global Village Champions is a registered charity but we do not solicit donations from anyone including the members.
